THE KINDRED PROJECT

**** Join the Boston Launch Committee for the opportunity to bring a unique and new brand of international travel to our community. *****

The Organization: The Kindred Project integrates multicultural communities by organizing international travel experiences with a distinctly local and personal connection. In the Kindred Experience, immigrants or first-generation Americans lead homestay/service trips to their country of origin for small groups of fellow community members, creating meaningful shared experience and sustainable personal relationships.

The Trips: The Kindred Experience is a 3-4 week immersion experience abroad in which participants live and volunteer in a developing country with the ultimate goal of strengthening bonds to immigrant/ethnic groups close to home in the U.S.

Each Experience is led by a Kindred Ambassador, an immigrant or first-generation American who maintains a network in the destination country, his/her country of origin. All of the travelers also come from the same community as the Ambassador.

Closely settled groups increase the sustainability of personal connections formed during the trip and boost the potential impact of the travelers’ ensuing community integration efforts.

The Movement: The first Kindred Experiences are slated to depart during spring/summer 2009, and the work of a dedicated Launch Committee in each starting city is vital to the project’s success. With the support of Kindred Project leadership, the launch committee is responsible for developing a complete Kindred Experience, from reaching out to local immigrant groups and selecting a trip leader/destination to designing a trip itinerary and publicizing the opportunity to potential travelers.

A Launch Committee is now forming in Boston. Calling creative, intelligent, and forward-thinking people with a passion for travel and cultural exchange—this opportunity is for you.
