| AmeriCorps *VISTA Position Description DEVELOPMENT AND MARKETING ASSOCIATE – INDIVIDUAL GIVING Generations Incorporated, founded in 1991, unites older adults and youth in partnership to strengthen individuals and communities. We focus on providing support to Boston youth by engaging local older adults as mentors and literacy tutors. Our programs help answer the desire of Boston’s nearly 100,000 retirees to become active in their communities. The last four years have seen our organization grow from just 40 volunteers to more than 300 older adults, and this year, we will serve more than 2,700 children each week. Our Development and Marketing Associates help secure the financial resources the organization needs to succeed. In this position you will work closely with the Executive Director, Director of Resource Development, and the Development Associate, and play a key role in the planning and implementation of both our day-to-day, and long-term fundraising strategies. This is an exciting opportunity for you to learn about non-profit management from the inside while assisting with expansion and development of the one of the nation’s leading intergenerational organizations. Responsibilities: Major Donors • Researching prospects • Community Networking • Board Relations • Cultivation – scheduling site visits, meetings, and other events • Data Management – includes tracking conversations/contacts and billing Direct Mail Appeal • Work with Board members and staff to finalize contact lists • Prepare letters – get them signed and mailed • Process donations – update database, send thank you letters, coordinate filing with Finance • Prepare reports for Board and Development team Small Events • Event planning and scheduling with board member hosts • Creating invitation lists and sending and tracking invitations • Planning and scheduling the program for the event • Managing the details of the event • Tracking and processing donations from the event in the same manor as the direct mail appeal Other • Some grant research and writing may be required • Assist the other Development and Marketing Associates *VISTA as needed • Opportunities to impact our other development activities will be provided as requested, and are highly encouraged Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Excellent “people skills” and respectful attitude toward older adults • Work well with a diverse group of community partners, volunteers, and the GI staff • Good organizational skills and attention to detail • Creative thinking and can take initiative • Work independently. Be reliable. • Develop and execute long-term plans with minimal guidance • Adaptable to perform a variety of duties and meet deadlines • Research skills, including ability to search the Internet and library resources • Able to do layout and copy for advertisements, or willing to learn (for marketing position) • Strong computer skills and able to learn new computer programs quickly • Understand the limitations modest financial and human resources nonprofit organizations Hours • 40 hours/week, Mon.-Fri. Evenings and weekends as needed. • 12-month term of service.
